The newest fire station in the Woodside District includes an emergency power back-up system as well as an integrated ring-down control system to automatically open apparatus bay doors, turn on the lights in strategic areas, turn off the gas oven and stove, and alert the firemen of the impending calls. Since the facility was built in the middle of a residential neighborhood, exterior lighting glare and sound to the neighbors was a prime design concern. To mitigate these concerns, the new facility included special cut-off optics on the exterior fixtures and a sound-attenuated enclosure on the emergency generator. Interior design included the installation of occupancy sensors in infrequently-used rooms and facility-wide lighting controls to minimize the use of electric lighting as much as possible.
