First Unitarian Church of Oakland
Location: Oakland, CA
Architect: Frank, Goring & Straja Architects
Among the first Churches built in the San Francisco Bay Area, this circa 1860 facility was seismically upgraded, completely renovated and expanded. O'Mahony & Myer was retained to provide electrical engineering and lighting design services for all interior and exterior areas of the project, which included substantial Historic Preservation work in the original Sanctuary and Community Halls, in addition to the expansion and renovation of the balance of the facility.
State-of-the-art, energy-efficient lighting fixtures and programmable controls were integrated seamlessly into the original wood construction in ways which enhance the historic architecture, while providing the congregation with high quality task and ambient illumination where and when it is needed.
A complete tel/data cabling & outlet infrastructure, as well as modern Audio/Visual, Security, Fire Alarm and Cable T.V. systems were extended into all original and expansion areas of the facility, without sacrificing or even disturbing any of the Historic construction. The work was completed over Two Phases of construction in order to minimize downtime and to allow a vigorous schedule of activities to be maintained at the Facility during the construction period.
