Rohnert Park Athletic Facility

This 33,000 square foot athletic facility houses a gymnasium with bleacher seating for 500 and is equipped for basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor soccer, boxing, wrestling, martial arts and gymnastics exhibits; a gymnastics studio complete with a full range of equipment plus a floor exercise mat; two racquetball courts with glass back walls and observation balconies; a weight training room complete with circuit weight training and cardiovascular equipment; locker rooms for men and women, each with toilets, lockers, showers, sauna and whirlpool; a child care room; a lobby with reception and issue areas, vending machines and a display case for merchandise for sale. The project received the Special Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society in 1987 and continues to be a model for facility design all these many years later.
